Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw has been criticized for suggesting that he would let his friends borrow his firearms in a recent social media post arguing against universal background checks. Crenshaw’s comments came in the wake of a shooting in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday. A woman shot and wounded a man who reached into her car and tried to grab her purse. She told a local ABC affiliate that she only had two rounds in the gun and “shot until I couldn’t shoot anymore....

More than 11,000 people were arrested in demonstrations on January 23 and January 31. Cells in Moscow and St. Petersburg in particular have been unable to handle the sudden influx. The protests across Russia backed Navalny, whose suspended sentence—on a 2014 embezzlement charge he says was trumped up—was converted into a jail sentence of two years and eight months on Tuesday.
