Alabama lawmakers are set to meet next week for a special session to debate the construction of new prisons, which would use $400 million of Alabama’s $2.2 billion in federal COVID aid. Williamson is pushing for at least $200 million of that to be used for hospitals in the state because increased staffing needs and the pause on elective procedures has caused a significant loss in revenue. Williamson estimated that about 80 percent of the state’s hospitals were losing revenue during an interview with the Alabama Political Reporter published Monday....

The summer’s surge in coronavirus cases prompted spikes in orders for monoclonal antibodies, and 70 percent of orders were being sent to just seven states. With a limited supply of doses, the HHS announced it was temporarily limiting the number of doses that could be ordered at any given time in an effort to ensure the treatment remains available for future patients. Dr. Aruna Arora, president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, said in a statement that the announcement came at a time when Alabama’s hospitals are “full and under tremendous stress....

Alabama authorities were due to execute death row inmate Alan Miller on Thursday, but on Monday a federal judge blocked the execution from being carried out. The reason was that Miller had opted to be executed by nitrogen hypoxia, a currently untried execution method that the state authorized in 2018. Its authorization means inmates can choose to be executed via that method if they wish, which is what Miller claims he did by filling in a form and leaving it for a prison worker to collect, according to the AP news agency....

Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts will both play in the Crimson Tide’s opener vs. Louisville on Saturday, Alabama coach Nick Saban told ESPN’s Chris Fowler. Saban indicated that the QB taking the first snap would be a game-time decision. The company said Friday that while 75 percent of its employees have already been vaccinated, it is aiming to move closer to the 100 percent mark. In addition to offering a financial bonus, the airline will require all new employees to be vaccinated before being hired. Furthermore, unvaccinated staff members will now have to submit to a new testing protocol and participate in a mandatory vaccine education program. Those employees will also not be eligible for special coronavirus pay if they contract COVID-19....

On Thursday, Baldwin reportedly fired a prop gun on the New Mexico movie set of the Western film Rust that killed Hutchins and injured the film’s writer/director, Joel Souza, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” Baldwin tweeted. “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family....

Last week, the actor gave an emotional tell-all interview to George Stephanopoulos about the shooting which led to the death of the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, after the prop gun being used by Baldwin misfired. During the interview, Baldwin said that he didn’t pull the trigger of the gun. “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them, never,” Baldwin said in the interview....

Selling the OC has just as much drama as you’d expect and the cast in the office seems very divided, perhaps even more so than in Selling Sunset. Throughout the episodes, Jarvis and Rose, along with fellow realtor Gio Helou, appear to be very separate from the rest of the group and it looks like the tension between Hall and her co-stars has not dissipated since the cameras have stopped rolling....

According to the team, Kerfoot originally sustained the injury during the game against the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 5 and reported “ongoing discomfort” days later while the team was in New York to play the Islanders. At City Hall, the congresswoman made a speech declaring that she endorses mayoral candidate Maya Wiley, a civil rights lawyer and member of the Democratic party. The endorsement from the progressive powerhouse could be a major boost for Wiley ahead of the Democratic primary election on June 22, followed by the general election on November 2. “We cannot afford a future where New York becomes a playground for the wealthy,” said Ocasio-Cortez....

The Moscow prosecutor’s office also asked courts to ban the Foundation for Fighting Corruption from spreading information in the media, taking part in elections, and using banks or organizing public events, according to Ivan Pavlov, a lawyer representing Navalny’s team.
