Two of the founders of AEW are Matt and Nick Jackson, The Young Bucks, so it makes sense that All Elite Wrestling puts a big emphasis on tag team wrestling. Since their signings, Jungle Boy (real name Jack Perry) and Luchasaurus have begun to impress the crowds with their athleticism and unconventional gimmicks as they head into their first round match against the Lucha Bros.
Jungle Boy’s character is just as his name implies. He plays a young man who was raised in the wild and Luchasaurus is his dinosaur friend, similar to classic tales like Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy. When Perry was asked by press at New York Comic Con where he thought he’d be in a year, Jungle Boy couldn’t answer, but acknowledged the wrestling industry is a far different place from what it once was.
“I don’t know what to expect in a year because a year ago I wouldn’t have expected this,” Perry said. “The thing I can tell is that things are changing, and I knew that from day one. I’ve been saying this all day, but I get to ride into the ring on a dinosaur every week. And in another place another time that would never fly.”
Perry explains that wrestling is changing and that it’s up to the current crop of wrestlers to decide what the industry wants to be moving forward “People say, ‘but there are rules’ there are no rules,” Perry continued. “It has to evolve, we all do.”
Looking ahead to his and Luchasauru’ match against the Lucha Bros, the current AAA Tag Team Champions, Perry could only gush about the possibility of facing these legends.
“It’s exciting, scary, nerve-wracking a bunch of things because when I saw [who we were facing] I was like ’s–t,’” Perry said. “But then there’s that pressure, because I have to make sure it’s a good one. Those are the guys I looked up to, I’m a big fan of theirs. So it’s cool to wrestle these idols of mine. It’s a challenge because they are some of the best in the world. So it’s a mix of emotions, but I’m excited. It will be my first match on TV, and it’s a great way for me to start things off.”
All Elite Wrestling Dynamite airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. on TNT.
