Baker Mayfield didn’t play Thursday night in the Panthers’ 25-15 win over the NFC South rival Falcons, but his presence was still felt on the Carolina sideline. Quite literally.

At the end of the game, Mayfield was spotted on the field giving teammates celebratory head-butts. That’s not usually out of the ordinary, except . . . the quarterback didn’t have his helmet on, making for a fairly painful scene as his teammates approached him.

“Good way to wind up in concussion protocol even thought you don’t get in the game,” Michaels half-jested.

No joking here, though: Mayfield won’t get an opportunity to see the field again if the Panthers (3-7) manage to win games with P.J. Walker under center, though their starting quarterback order is tenuous, at best.

Reports indicate that Walker will get an opportunity — as will third-stringer Sam Darnold and likely Mayfield, as well, as the team tries to figure out its QB situation entering the offseason.

Mayfield has often made questionable decision on the football field. Count this one among the most bizarre.
