Smith suffered severe burns on his head, neck, back, a shoulder and an arm after his pregnant girlfriend poured boiling hot water on top of him, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Miami Herald. The girlfriend, identified as Mary Gaspar, was charged with aggravated battery although she has since been released.

The 6-3, 232-pound tight end was named to the John Mackey Award (nation’s best tight end) preseason and midseason watch list last season. He had 39 receptions for 441 yards and three touchdowns in nine games this season.
When Smith didn’t react strongly enough for her, she started hitting him with her open hands, she told police.
Smith led all tight ends in receptions (61) in 2014.
