His news conference figured to be mildly entertaining. Bauer, rarely one to hold back, had his start pushed back a couple of days because he cut his finger working on his drone — Bauer loves his drones — and he didn’t disappoint.

Bauer actually brought the drone to the press conference.

That wasn’t the most surprising moment of the interview, though. While he was talking about his love of drones, he mentioned he’s a huge “Star Wars” fan. That prompted a follow-up question later in the session, about which “Star Wars” movie is his favorite.

His answer: “My favorite one? I don’t know, ‘Phantom Menace’ probably, just because I think Darth Maul is one of the coolest villains, double-sided lightsaber, and his theme song. I like that one for whatever reason. But I don’t have a least favorite one. They’re all 1A, 1B, stuff like that.”

Wait, what?

“The Phantom Menace?” That’s roundly thought to be, by far, the worst of the franchise. It’s the one where people started to look at George Lucas like he was just a crazy person, instead of a crazy genius. And Darth Maul was only in the movie for a handful of minutes before he was killed.

Sorry, shoulda given a “spoiler alert” before saying that … well, no. Not sorry. If you haven’t seen it, good. Don’t bother. It’s an awful movie.

Here are Rotten Tomatoes ratings of the Star Wars movies, listed by release date:

A New Hope: 93 percent Empire Strikes Back: 94 percentReturn of the Jedi: 80 percentThe Phantom Menace: 55 percentAttack of the Clones: 65 percentRevenge of the Sith: 79 percentThe Force Awakens: 92 percent

Yeah. I grew up on the “Star Wars” movies. I was so very excited for the new ones. I hated “The Phantom Menace,” because it was so bad and because I’d wasted so much time eagerly anticipating that dud.

I wasn’t alone. Clearly, nobody liked “The Phantom Menace.”

Except, it seems, Trevor Bauer.
