Wainwright had been experiencing abdominal soreness, prompting a visit Thursday to Dr. Michael Brunt at Washington University. The official diagnosis: an abdominal strain that the Cardinals say will take two weeks to heal. The Dispatch reports that Wainwright still can throw, although he will be limited in workouts.
The 33-year-old right-hander went 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA last season and finished third in the NL Cy Young Award balloting.
