Pernell Anthony Jones of Kenner, Louisiana admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and one count of committing mail fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The guilty plea comes as many Americans have been traveling on airplanes for the Thanksgiving holiday and may have experienced the inconvenience of lost luggage and the need to apply for compensation. According to a Tuesday statement from the Department of Justice, the 36-year-old Jones “took flights with commercial airlines under false or fictitious identities using fraudulent identification cards” beginning in or around 2015....

Tyler Ivanoff said he was just north of the Bering Strait—the northernmost point of the Pacific Ocean that separates North America from Asia—when he found a bottle that contained a letter dated June 20, 1969, according to UPI and The Moscow Times. Ivanoff posted a photo of the letter on Facebook and asked friends for help translating the letter, which was written in Russian by a sailor aboard the Sulak, a fishing boat that reports say belonged to the Soviet Far East fishing fleet....
The soldier, who died during the incident was identified as Spc. Karolina Ferrer-Padilla, according to the Army Times, which first wrote about the report on Friday afternoon. In its report, the Army says the accident, which occurred at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, happened when the soldier was lowering the mobile kitchen “during a tire change.” The report states that the soldier “was removing one of the jack stands when the CK tipped over approximately 90-degrees, landing on top of the soldier....
